history

The building was erected in several steps. The rear part, which is the oldest, a so-called stone work , was probably built as a mansion for the barefoot monastery in the Middle Ages . After various uses of the building, the history of the beer tavern began in 1859 with the distribution of concessions to the merchant and linen dealer Thörner. Thörner gave the "Green Hunter" its name, because he was a passionate hunter. After 1875, different operators ran the hunter like the Kahle family and from 1974 until today the Rupp family. In the pub's beer garden, which has a roof that can be opened, there was a horse chestnut tree that is over 100 years old . In November 2017, the tree had to be felled due to pests. A replacement in the same place is not possible, as a new tree could not take root at the site quickly enough.

regular table

The history of what is known today as the "Klause" begins around 1720 in various Osnabrück wine taverns owned by the then wine merchant Jacob Jäger. The exact founding of the regulars' table is not known, but the chronicle says: “If founded under the Klausen sign stands before 1819, then it should be said that already before that, lively Osnabrück citizens regularly got together in a lively group, as they still do today Fall is. ”Until 1894, this group met in the Lange Weinstube . After the sale, the Klausen brothers moved to the “Grüner Jäger”, where they still meet every Friday in the Klause, a guest room in the Grüner Jäger . There is also a large wood-made table that was received from the former Chancellor Otto von Bismarck as a thank you for a birthday congratulations. The list of members includes several prominent names such as Albert Lortzing , Johannes von Miquel and Justus Wilhelm Lyra . These and many other deceased members hang portraits on the walls of the hermitage.
