Description and history

Johann Carl Gottlieb Seifert (April 30, 1769; † April 4, 1837) was court gardener at the castle in Elsterwerda from 1806 , where he replaced Johann Matthäus Terscheck (1745–1809), who was considered a specialist in fruit and vegetable gardening . When Seifert died in 1837, he had held the position of court gardener in Elsterwerda for 31 years. Seifert obviously succeeded in growing pineapple plants in the gardener's house of the castle , so that a representation of them can also be found at the foot of his tomb.

The cast iron grave cross is dated to around 1837/38. It is recorded in the local monument register under registration number 09136047. The 1.57 meter high and 1.05 meter wide cross was probably made in the Lauchhammer art and bell foundry .

The work of art was renovated in 2009 in the Lauchhammer art foundry and re-inaugurated on the Open Monument Day of the same year.
