Mustafa Haikal

Mustafa Haikal (* 1958 in Leipzig ) is a German historian and author . His publications deal mainly with cultural-historical topics, he also writes children's books and contributions for the radio.

Life

Haikal was born in Leipzig in 1958. His mother is a German journalist, his father an Egyptian lawyer. He studied history in Leipzig , Berlin and Moscow and received his doctorate in 1987. Until 1992 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Leipzig.

In several of his writings, Haikal deals with the history of the zoological gardens and with commercial enterprises such as the consumer cooperative Leipzig or Hugo and Alfred Schneider AG (HASAG) . His book Der Kamellienwald, now in its third edition . The story of a German nursery is about the Saxon gardening dynasty Seidel and the cultural history of the camellias . He is particularly interested in the cultural history of the great apes .
