history
The publishing house was founded in 1981 by Rainer Nitsche (* 1945) and two other partners. Today Rainer Nitsche and Gudrun Fröba (* 1951) are partners and managing directors. After studying literature with Walter Höllerer and completing his doctorate at the Technical University of Berlin in 1971, Nitsche worked as a freelance worker at the Berlin branch of the Luchterhand publishing house and lectured at the Technical University. He was denied his habilitation because of criminal convictions in student newspapers. He was initially a teacher at the Berlin School for Adult Education and from 1978 to 1983 also managing director of Mehringhof GmbH . Gudrun Fröba takes on the layout and design of the publishing program, while Nitsche proofreads the books. Nitsche was at times also authorized to represent the board of the Berlin regional association of the German book trade association .
Every year around 10 titles are published by Transit Buchverlag, in 2006 around 60 titles from the publishing range were available. All books are graphically designed differently. In 2019 the publisher received the German Publishing Award .
