All Saints' Day, in the Graduale simplex

The Graduale Simplex in usum minorum ecclesiarum is a Latin chorale book of Gregorian chant for the Roman Catholic mass . It was compiled by the Consilium (the Council for the Execution of the Liturgy Constitution) and approved by the Congregation for Rites in 1967.

history

The Graduale Simplex was created by order of the Second Vatican Council . The Constitution on Sacred Liturgy ordered the preparation of an edition with simpler Gregorian chants for use in smaller churches (Art. 117). This was intended to encourage the active participation of the whole people in the church services celebrated with song .

In contrast to the richer melodies of the Graduale Romanum, the book contains simpler chants for the proprium of Holy Mass . All the melodies used in the Graduale Simplex still belong to the repertoire of the liturgical melodies.
