Graf Orlock is a grindcore band from Los Angeles , California . The band was named after the vampire Count Orlock from the film Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror . The band consists of the members of the hardcore punk bands Greyskull, Arctic Choke, Dangers, and Ghostlimb. Graf Orlock uses audio clips and dialogues from science fiction films like Terminator , Alien and RoboCop in all of their songs. This mixture is also jokingly referred to as “cinema grind”.

history

The band was formed after Jason Schmidt and Alan Hunter were working together on a script for a work at UCLA . It was named Destination Time Yesterday and it sparked controversy at the school as it did not refer to any source. Ultimately, the controversy sparked an uprising, so that a deployment of the Los Angeles Police Department could not be avoided.

Schmidt and Hunter were then expelled from school. Together with bassist Sven Calhoun and singer Kalvin Kristoff, they founded Graf Orlock and released EPs and split albums. In 2006 they started a trilogy based on the controversial script. Destination Time Yesterday was the first part of it. The EP Destination Time Tomorrow was the second part in 2007, which was number 16 in Decibel magazine 's Top 40 of 2007. The last part of the Destination Time Today trilogy was published in 2009.

At the moment the members of Graf Orlock are working on their own label, which is called Vitriol Records. Bands like Ghostlimb, Robotosaurus, Owen Hart, Dangers, and Totalt Jävla Mörker are under contract there.
