Grafenberg carillon
The Grafenberger Glockenspiel , also known as the Grafenberger Carillon , at the Melanchthon Church in the Düsseldorf district of Düsseltal is a playable carillon with 40 bells and a total weight of around 6 t. The carillon is located in the outer framework of the church tower at a height of 25 m.
construction
The bells of the original carillon were cast by Petit & Fritsen in 1964 to establish the Melanchthon parish (today: Easter parish). It comprised 35 bells with pitches a , c to a . The two ring bells, cast by the Rincker company in 1964, with the pitches c and f were integrated. In 1998 the carillon was extended by three bells, cast by the Rincker company, with the pitches a sharp to c . This instrument has a chromatic range of three octaves with an additional three deep bells.
The glockenspiel was operated with unreliable magnetic hammers that enabled three dynamic levels . There was an electric gaming table and an automatic reel .
Percussion hammer technology
To expand the musical possibilities, a new demolition hammer technique was installed that had been developed over 15 years. The full dynamic range can be used via a keyboard that can be operated without training for mechanical carillons, allowing virtuoso pianistic playing techniques and chordal sound formations that cannot be achieved by mechanical playing. These tonal possibilities are also fully available in automatic mode.
Bell dates
The reference frequency for a is 435 Hz. The data were analyzed by Ulrich Leykam with an acoustic measuring device and by FFT analysis.
