Harald Rein

Harald Rein (born October 1, 1957 in Bochum ) is a Swiss theologian and the seventh bishop of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland .

Life

Harald Rein is a native German , but also obtained Swiss citizenship . His father was a mechanical engineer; he himself studied a. a. in Bern . Since 1982 he worked in the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland, first as vicar in Möhlin , 1983–1993 as pastor in Obermumpf - Wallbach , since 1993 in the parish of Zurich . He has been the episcopal vicar of Bishop Fritz-René Müller since 2001 and, after his resignation on March 1, 2009, diocese administrator . On the occasion of the 141st session of the National Synod of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland, he was elected the seventh Bishop of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland on June 12, 2009 in Olten . With 87 of 120 valid votes, he achieved the necessary two-thirds majority in the second ballot. The episcopal ordination took place on September 12, 2009 in the Augustinian Church in Zurich , the main consecrator was Joris Vercammen , the Archbishop of Utrecht. As a seal , Rein chose “Not praise for people, not fear of people” [should move us].

Harald Rein received his doctorate in theology from the University of Lucerne with a pastoral theological thesis on motorway churches. In his further academic work, he concentrated on the topic of parish management . He has completed postgraduate studies in management and public administration and has held several lectureships in community management at the Department of Christian Catholic Theology at the University of Bern . On 16 June 2009, the University of Berne appointed him due to a number of individual publications as habilitation equivalent , to have been regarded lecturer of Theology Practical Theology with the restrictive specification cybernetics.

In the context of ecumenism , Harald Rein was, among other things, President of the Working Group of Christian Churches in the Canton of Zurich and delegate of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland at the ninth plenary meeting of the World Council of Churches in 2006 in Porto Alegre . He also published a study of the ecumenical relations between the Anglican , Old Catholic and Orthodox churches.

As a matter of concern for his tenure as bishop he mentioned the growth of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland, which should not be achieved through proselytism , but rather that more and more people who are distant from the church are addressed who are looking for a spiritual home. In addition, the ecumenical role of the Christian Catholic Church, especially the reception of the dialogue document "Church and Church Fellowship", which the International Roman Catholic Old Catholic Dialogue Commission presented in 2009.

Harald Rein has been honorary assistant bishop of the Anglican diocese in Europe since October 21, 2015 .
