Graphic paper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Graphic papers are papers for printing , writing and copying. Their share in the global paper demand is steadily increasing. With the growing demand for graphic papers, a process technology that is specially designed for these grades is becoming particularly important. High-speed newspaper printing and magazine paper machines are the benchmark for development progress and evidence of consistent process competence.

Newspaper printing

The colored newspaper, printed with high image quality in web offset , is state of the art today, as is the use of raw materials of up to 100% secondary fibers. There are key technologies between the raw material and the end product, on which the appearance and reading acceptance of a newspaper ultimately depend. In stock preparation, with the help of “flotation deinking” and dispersion, an economically and ecologically attractive pulp can be achieved that can be optimally further processed on modern high-performance paper machines. The special features for good printability of newsprint , smoothness and uniformity are achieved in online calendering with innovative Ecosoft calenders.

SC papers

SC paper ( super calendered ) are wood-containing uncoated paper, mainly for magazines and magazine inserts are used, as well as catalogs. SC papers are divided into the groups SC-B, SC-A and SC-A-Plus on the basis of their quality characteristics. SC papers mainly consist of wood pulp, cellulose and recycled fibers and have a high filler content. In general, these papers have very high demands on opacity , gloss and surface quality for excellent image reproduction. Thanks to the Janus MK-2 technology, SC papers can now be calendered online that are almost SC-A in character. For SC-A-Plus papers, which place the highest demands on smoothness and gloss, offline calendering with the Janus MK-2 calender is state of the art.

LWC papers

LWC papers ( light weight coated ) are wood-containing coated papers. They are mainly used for high-quality magazines and newspaper supplements as well as catalogs. These coated papers meet the highest demands in terms of whiteness, surface quality and printability. Due to their low weight and excellent printability, LWC papers are particularly suitable for printed products with long print runs that require the best possible image reproduction on the one hand and the lowest possible weight even with a large number of pages on the other. With LWC papers, special attention is paid to the "sticky", dirt speck and printing ink removal, or the filler reduction, fiber treatment and bleaching. Customized water supply and cleaning are also important. In the paper machine , coating application and calendering are of particular importance.

Wood-free coated papers

The most important types of wood-free coated paper are picture printing and art paper as well as carbonless paper. Line paint is applied to these papers to improve the printability. The line application can be one-sided, double-sided, single, double or triple, bright white or colored, high-gloss, semi-matt or matt. In stock preparation processes for the production of wood-free, coated papers, the key technologies, in addition to grinding, are especially systems for reprocessing the coated broke.

The calendering requirements for the various qualities of wood-free, coated papers differ considerably in some cases. Art paper is z. B. still satined offline. The Janus MK 2 technology used here ensures that the paper has the desired, visually appealing and uniform surface. With carbonless papers, the best calendering results are mainly achieved online through the use of Ecosoft calenders.

Wood-free uncoated papers

The demand for wood-free uncoated papers has increased considerably - on the one hand due to modern office communication, the use of ever more powerful digital technology with printers , copiers in black and white and color, and on the other hand due to the global increase in book production, the classic area of application for high-quality, voluminous paper qualities.
