The Grand Bleu de Gascogne , sometimes also called the Great Blue Gascony Hound , is a French dog breed recognized by the FCI ( No. 22, Gr. 6, Sec. 1.1 ) .
Origin and history
Like its contemporary, the Hubertushund , it is said to come from the 14th century. He ran the packs in the counts of Foix, Gaston Febus , he hunted wolf , bear , wild boar and other large animals. Today it is still very widespread in the south of France, especially in Gascony , which is where it got its name from.
description
The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a 72 cm tall and 35 kg heavy hunting dog , completely black and white stippled, which gives a slate blue sheen; with or without more or less extensive black plates.
His hair is short, quite thick and very thick. The ears of the dogs are one of the distinguishing features of the Bleu; they are thin, folded and tapering to a point, and when placed forward they reach above the tip of the nose.
