Science magazine describes a canyon discovered in Greenland in 2013 as the Grand Canyon of Greenland .

background

In its August 30, 2013 issue, the magazine reported that scientists from the University of Bristol , the University of Calgary and the University of Urbino had also described the canyon as a "mega-canyon". The canyon was carried data of the Ice-Penetrating Radar the NASA under the " Operation IceBridge discovered." Recordings showed a huge canyon under the Greenland Ice Sheet .

course

The canyon, which is more than 750 kilometers long, up to 800 meters deep and 10 kilometers wide, stretches from the center of Greenland northwards into the Arctic Ocean to the fjord of the Petermann Glacier . Because of the V-shape, scientists suspect that it was formed by running water.
