The Grand Hotel is a historic hotel on Mackinac Island in the US state of Michigan . It was built in the late 19th century and claims to have the largest veranda in the world. The famous guests of the Grand Hotel include five US presidents , Vladimir Putin , Dmitri Medvedev , Thomas Edison and Mark Twain .
The hotel is owned by RD (Dan) Musser III.
In 1957 the Grand Hotel was declared a State Historical Building, in 1972 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and in June 1989 it was declared a National Historic Landmark .
