The Grand Hotel Excelsior is one of the most famous hotels on Lido di Venezia . It was next to the Grand Hotel des Bains in 1911 resulting novella Death in Venice by Thomas Mann mentioned and received by the International Film Festival of Venice celebrity. It is located right next to the Palazzo del Cinema and is still frequently visited by many international film stars because the Grand Hotel des Bains was closed in 2010.
history
The hotel was planned and built in 1907 by the architect Giovanni Sardi. It is a "Veneto-Moorish fantasy palace" with interiors by Mariano Fortuny . In 1932 the Venice International Film Festival was held for the first time on the hotel's terraces. Today the hotel is managed by the HO10 Hotel Group .
Known guests
Well-known guests in the hotel included Marlene Dietrich , Kirk Douglas , Greta Garbo and Paul Newman .
