Grand Prix de l'Humanité 1973

The Grand Prix de l'Humanité was held in 1973 as a stage race with three stages. It took place from May 25th to 27th.

Drivers from eight countries took part. The GDR started with a team of track cyclists . It included Norbert Dürpisch , Klaus-Dieter Greil , Manfred Ulbricht , Andreas Neuer and Uwe Unterwalder .

The first stage was on a circuit in Le Havre over 48 kilometers. Osynzew from the USSR won in 1:04:06 h ahead of Klaus-Dieter Greil and Norbert Dürpisch from the GDR. The second stage was 160 kilometers. Ivan Trifonow from the USSR won in 4:47:00 hours ahead of his two compatriots Kaupnees and Osynzew. Uwe Unterwalder crashed on this stage and retired. The third and final stage led to Paris over 174 kilometers . Osynzew won in 4:54:00 hours ahead of Norbert Dürpisch and Manfred Ulbricht.

Ivan Trifonov secured victory in the overall standings 1:19 minutes ahead of his compatriot Osynzew. Third was Norbert Dürpisch , 1:32 minutes behind. The other places were occupied by Holik (+1: 38 minutes), Vondracek (+1: 45 minutes), Budek (+2: 55 minutes), Klaus-Dieter Greil (+3: 31 minutes), Kluj (+4: 07 minutes ), Kaupnees (+4: 42 minutes), Andreas Neuer (+4: 42 minutes) and Manfred Ulbricht (+4: 58 minutes).

The overall team standings were decided by the USSR. The GDR came second, 16 seconds behind. The ČSSR took third place, 1:32 minutes behind.
