Graziella Contratto (born October 20, 1966 in Schwyz ) is a Swiss conductor and music teacher .

Life

Graziella Contratto first studied piano at the music academies in Lucerne and Winterthur and from 1991 completed her training as a conductor, among others with Rudolf Kelterborn , Detlev Müller-Siemens , Horst Stein and Manfred Honeck . In 1992 she became Switzerland's youngest lecturer in music theory at the Lucerne School of Music. In 1996 she conducted the world premiere of the opera Knastgesänge by Hans Werner Henze in Basel . In 1998 she became Claudio Abbado's assistant at the Berlin Philharmonic and at the Salzburg Easter Festival . In 2000 she became chief resident of the Orchester National de Lyon . From 2003 to 2009 Graziella Contratto worked as chief conductor of the Orchester des Pays de Savoie (the first woman ever to hold the artistic direction of a permanent French state orchestra) and worked with various symphony orchestras in and outside Switzerland. In 2007 she became director of the Davos Festival - young artists in concert . In 2010 Graziella Contratto took over the management of the music department at the Bern University of the Arts .
