Gre-No-Li

The acronym Gre-No-Li stands for the three Swedish football players Gunnar Gren , Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm , who formed a feared trio in the Swedish national team and at AC Milan in the 1950s .

The three players led the Swedish team coached by Rudolf Kock to the gold medal in the soccer tournament of the Summer Olympics in London in 1948 . In the final at Wembley against Yugoslavia , the trio scored all three goals for a 3-1 win.

In 1949 the three Swedes were signed by the Italian top club AC Milan . In the 1950/51 season Milan won the Italian championship title under the Hungarian coach Lajos Czeizler . The Gre-No-Li scored 56 of Milan's 107 goals . Nordahl was also the top scorer with 34 goals .

In 1953 Gunnar Gren moved to Fiorentina . Liedholm and Nordahl led AC Milan back to Scudetto in 1954/55 . After Nordahl moved to AS Roma in 1956 , Liedholm won his championship titles number three and four with Milan in 1956/57 and 1958/59 .

Gunnar Nordahl was top scorer five times between 1949/50 and 1954/55 in Italy's top division and, with 225 goals, is third behind Silvio Piola and Francesco Totti on the all-time list of Serie A scorers . At AC Milan he is the most successful shooter in the club's history with 221 goals. For a long time, Liedholm was the foreigner with the most appearances for Milan with 394 games . In 2009 he was replaced by Clarence Seedorf , who played 432 games.
