Great Mazinger

Great Mazinger ( Japanese グ レ ー ト マ ジ ン ガ ー ) is a manga by the Japanese artist Go Nagai . Toei Animation produced a 56 episode anime adaptation. The work is in the genres of Action , Science Fiction and Mecha classified and is the sequel to Mazinger Z .

action

After the death of Doctor Hell, whom the battle robot Mazinger Z defeated, peace first returned. The underground Mikene Empire seeks to conquer the surface and its people. The Emperor of Darkness is Mikene's guide. The underground realm sends two powerful robots to the surface who defeat Mazinger Z and destroy the photon energy research institute. Suddenly the new robot Great Mazinger appears , who simply destroys the Mikenish robots.

Kōji Kabuto, the pilot of the Mazinger Z, travels to the USA to study at a US university. Tetsuya Tsurugi, who controls the Great Mazinger , is humankind's new fighter against the Mikene Empire. Professor Kenzo Kabuto, the inventor of the Great Mazinger and chief of the Science Fortress, helps Tetsuya Tsurugi against the Miken Empire.

Mikene's robots lose every battle against Great Mazinger. Doctor Hell is resuscitated by the Emperor of Darkness in order to strengthen the fighting strength. Professor Kenzo Kabuto is injured during an attack on the fortress. In the end, Tetsuya and Great Mazinger manage to destroy the Mikene empire with the help of Kōji and Mazinger Z.

  • Tetsuya Tsurugi : The pilot of the Great Mazinger robot. He was an orphan who was adopted by Professor Kenzo Kabuto. Kenzo Kabuto later trained him to pilot Great Mazinger. Tetsuya is brave, but he is macho and impetuous.
  • Jun Hono : The pilot of the female robot Venus A. She is a dark-skinned girl, her father was African American and her mother was Japanese.
  • Professor Kenzo Kabuto : He is a Japanese scientist. Kenzo is Professor Juzo Kabuto's son, Kouji and Shiro's father, and the inventor of Great Mazinger.

In 1974 the Toei Animation studio produced a 56-part anime television series based on the manga. The original title is Japanese. グ レ ー ト マ ジ ・ ガ ー , Gurêto Majingâ . The character design was created by Keisuke Morishita . The series aired from September 8, 1974 to September 28, 1975 by Fuji TV in Japan.

Telecinco aired the anime in Spain and Canale 5 and Super 3 in Italy.

The music for the series was composed by Michiaki Watanabe . Was used for the opening credits the song Great Mazinger , for the credits Yuja wa Mazinger , both from Ichirou Mizuki , Koorogi '73 and the Columbia Yurikago-kai - a collaboration between the children's choir Otowa Yurikago-kai ( 音羽ゆりかご会 ) with Columbia Music Entertainment to Singing songs for anime.

Movies and OVA

Great Mazinger was the basis for the movies Great Mazinger versus Grendizer and Great Mazinger versus Getter Robo G . In addition to Mazinger Z , Great Mazinger was part of the OVA Mazinkaiser from 1999.
