Nippon Columbia KK ( Japanese 日本 コ ロ ム ビ ア 株式会社 , Nippon Koromubia Kabushiki kaisha ) is a Japanese record label founded in 1910 as the Nippon Phonograph Company. In 1931 it joined the British Columbia Graphophone Company and took over the trademarks and names common at the time. In 1946 the name was changed to Nippon Columbia Company Limited. The current name followed in 2002. Columbia Music Entertainment also produced electronics products under the Denon brand until 2001 . The label operates outside of Japan for trademark reasons (outside of Japan Sony Music owns the rights to the Columbia naming rights) as the Savoy Label Group , which publishes and sells music through its labels SLG , Savoy Records / Savoy Jazz and Denon .

The Japanese record label has no relationship with the US label Columbia Records from Sony Music , which operates as Sony Records due to the rights to the brand name in Japan .
