Great Portland Street (London Underground)

Great Portland Street is an underground station on the London Underground in the City of Westminster . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 1, at the intersection of Euston Road and Great Portland Street. This is where the Circle Line , Hammersmith & City Line and Metropolitan Line trains stop . In 2014, 8.43 million passengers used the station. Regent's Park station on the Bakerloo Line is about 200 meters to the west , but there is no direct connection there.

The station is part of the oldest underground line in the world between Paddington and Farringdon . It was opened on January 10, 1863 by the Metropolitan Railway (predecessor of the Metropolitan Line). For a few decades it was initially called Portland Road and was given its current name Great Portland Street on March 1, 1917 .

Nearby attractions include Regent's Park and the BT Tower , once the tallest building in London.
