Greektown

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Greektown (German: "Greek city") refers to (most commonly, but also officially) ethnic district of the Greek diaspora . It corresponds to the (rarer) term Greek Quarter in German-speaking countries.

In contrast to other émigré districts, the Greektowns were mostly only inhabited by the first or second generation of emigrants, while the following generations were scattered all over the city. The slums of yore became mostly gentrified nightlife areas with Greek restaurants, grocery stores, cafes, etc. which are now popular with locals and tourists.
