Gregory Frank "Greg" Allen (born October 18, 1967 in West Ham , London ) is a former English football player .
Career
Allen belonged as an apprentice (German trainee) to Arsenal FC in the mid-1980s and played in the youth field with Tony Adams and David Rocastle , among others , but left the club without being in the first team. His time at Arsenal was followed by a season at Dagenham FC in the Football Conference , in which the midfielder scored two goals in 14 appearances. At the end of the 1987/88 season , however, Dagenham rose as a knocked-off bottom of the table from the top division below the Football League .
In the summer of 1988 he came to Cambridge United in the Football League Fourth Division on an undisclosed basis . While the other newcomers Liam Daish , Chris Leadbitter , Colin Bailie , John Vaughan and John Taylor played an important role in the march of Cambridge from fourth to second division in the following years, Allen's stay in the Football League was short-lived. After four league appearances and a cup appearance, he left the club again and subsequently played for Billericay Town in the Isthmian League . In the 1992/93 season he had another brief appearance in the Football Conference, but after only three missions he left Dagenham & Redbridge again and returned to Billericay. In 1994, Allen was in the final of the Essex Senior Cup with Billericay , but the game against Gray's Athletic ended in a 0-1 defeat.
