Gregor Czisch

Gregor Czisch (born January 21, 1964 ) is a German physicist and energy researcher specializing in regenerative energy systems . He worked for a long time at the Institute for Solar Energy Supply Technology , which was affiliated with the University of Kassel .

biography

The trained farmer studied physics at the Technical University of Munich with a focus on energy supply. Since 1987 he has worked on a wide variety of topics in this area at the Technical University of Munich, at DLR Stuttgart, at Fraunhofer ISE in Freiburg and for the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics near Garching.

In his doctoral dissertation , which was assessed summa cum laude , in 2005 he demonstrated the feasibility of an energy system based on 100% renewable energies for the greater Europe-North Africa-West Asia region. The work was the first to prove in a detailed hourly evaluation that it is possible to supply Europe and North Africa exclusively with electricity produced from renewable sources, while ensuring security of supply at any hour of the year. Czisch then worked at the University of Kassel, where he a. a. worked as a consultant for the Scientific Advisory Council of the Federal Government on Global Change and, as an expert on the design of future energy supply, was consulted by various ministries, parliaments and utility companies.

Gregor Czisch played a key role in the calculations of the potential of downdraft power plants .

Positions

Gregor Czisch advocates a large-scale network of regenerative power plants extending beyond Europe, which should be linked in a transcontinental "super network" by means of high-voltage direct current transmission . The power plants and storage facilities should be installed in the most economically advantageous locations. Under these premises, he believes that an energy supply based on today's market prices is possible. As a thought leader and in contrast to many similar initiatives ( DESERTEC ), ( Volker Quaschning ) he emphasizes the priority of wind energy for cost reasons and the contribution of (Norwegian) hydropower and biomass for reasons of controllability and availability . He does not attach any significant role to solar thermal energy for this concept, photovoltaics is completely left out, but in comparison to Desertec he is relying on an even more massive expansion of the power grid .
