Gregory II (Tusculum)

Gregory II († 1058 ) was Count in Tusculum and Count of the Laterans in Italy in the 11th century .

Life

Gregory II was a son of Alberich III. , the Count of Tusculum and the Lateran. His mother was called Ermelina . In 1044 he succeeded his father as Count ( Lateranensis et Tuscularensis comes ). He held this post until his death in 1058.

In his work Chronicon Monasterii Casinensis, Leo Marsicanus lists Gregory II as Gregorius de Alberico . The chronological position of this passage points to the year 1058 as the time of death of Gregory II. Like his forefathers, he also carried the illustrious title Romanorum patricius, consul, dux et senator - patrician, consul, duke and senator of the Romans - who transferred his secular position of power Rome and its army expressed. His double title includes his possessions of lands and fortifications both in Rome and in Tusculum, which he secured through an alliance with the papacy . Gregory II had three sons and a daughter. His daughter Theodora married Pandulf (or Landulf), the lord of Capaccio (1040 to 1052). Pandulf was the son of Guaimar III. of Salerno and his wife Gaitelgrima . He was murdered together with his buddy Guaimar IV in 1052.

The sons of Gregory II. Johann and Peter died at a young age, so that his son Gregor III. succeeded him in 1058.
