Greg Thompson

Gregory Edwin "Greg" Thompson (* 1956 in Muswellbrook , New South Wales , Australia ) is a clergyman and former bishop of the Anglican Church in Australia .

Life

Thompson studied Anglican theology at the University of Newcastle . He completed his training as an Anglican priest at Ridley College of the Evangelical Anglican College in Melbourne . Thompson was ordained in 1986 . From 1988 to 1994, Thompson was a priest in an Anglican parish in Darwin . From 1994 to 1999 he was the New South Wales State Secretary of the Bush Church Aid Society . From 1999 to 2004 he was Rector of St John's Church in the Darlinghurst neighborhood in Sydney and then Rector of St John's Church in Canberra . From 2007 to 2013 he was Philip Free Bishop of the Northern Territory, succeeding Philip . From 2013 Thompson was the successor of Brian Farran Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle . In 2017 he resigned prematurely for health reasons; he was succeeded by Peter Stuart .

In the 1970s, at the age of 19, he was sexually abused by Anglican Bishop Ian Shevill while he was a priest .

Thompson is married.
