The Gregory Point is a headland on the west coast of Smith Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is 7 miles southwest of Cape Smith .
The name Cape Gregory appears on maps based on the work of the British polar traveler Henry Foster (1796–1831) between 1828 and 1831. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided in 1962, after evaluating aerial photographs, to change this name in order to better reflect the actual nature of the geographic object.
