Callipers

A caliper

A caliper , also called an external caliper, is a test tool used by stonemasons , stone sculptors and turners .

Stonemasons can use callipers to "grasp" external dimensions and, for example, take dimensions from profiles that are "behind-the-scenes". This means that with a caliper it is possible to check dimensions that lie behind larger dimensions that cannot otherwise be determined.

The stone sculptors use callipers, in addition to the above application, when they enlarge and reduce small models in certain or specified scales for the production of stone sculptures . The method is called the three-circle method . It is a special transmission technique used by stone sculptors, which is relatively complicated and requires a lot of experience. The puncturing device is used for transmission on a 1: 1 scale .
