Schaefer Music Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schaefer Music Festival was a music festival that took place in the summer between 1967 and 1976 at the Trump Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park in New York City . The events were sponsored by the F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company . After the festival was moved to the "West Side Piers" due to noise complaints, it quickly lost its attractiveness and was no longer continued after 1976.

The festival was founded by Hilly Kristal , musician and renowned owner of the New York club CBGB , and the concert promoter Ron Delsener . Most of the concerts were attended by six to seven thousand spectators, but it was reported that Bob Marley's 1975 performance drew around 15,000 spectators. The festival was very popular because of the very cheap entrance fees and the performances of many world-famous musicians.
