Nils Lofgren
Nils Hilmer Lofgren (born June 21, 1951 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American rock musician . The stage show during his live performances made him known worldwide. For example, he regularly played the guitar while jumping on the trampoline . In addition to the guitar, he has also mastered the piano and accordion .
biography
Already at the age of 17 Lofgren belonged to Neil Young's band and played the piano on his album After the Gold Rush . During this time he recorded four albums with his own band called Grin. After Mick Taylor left the Rolling Stones , he was one of the possible successors. In 1975 Lofgren began his career as a solo artist. With songs like Back It Up, Keith Don't Go (this song is about Keith Richards ' drug problems), I Came to Dance as well as Shine Silently and No Mercy , he had several single hits.
In Germany he became known to music fans especially in 1976 and 1979 through his appearances at the Rockpalast . During this time, Lofgren released many records that garnered a lot of critical acclaim, but flopped commercially.
In 1984 Lofgren became the second guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band . He replaced Steven Van Zandt , who wanted to take care of his solo projects. In the late 1980s, Springsteen split from the E Street Band. Lofgren then released other albums and went on tour as an accompanist with Springsteen, Patti Scialfa , Neil Young and Ringo Starr 's 'All Starr Band'. In 1999 the E Street Band reunited, in which Van Zandt and Lofgren have played together ever since. Since May 2018 Lofgren has been playing in Neil Young's backing band Crazy Horse and replacing the long-time guitarist Frank "Poncho" Sampedro, initially for a few live performances. In 2019 Neil Young also recorded a new studio album ("Colorado") with Nils Lofgren as Crazy Horse guitarist, which was released in October 2019.
