The Border Crossing Point Before Zarrentin (November 12, 1989)

The Gudow / Zarrentin border crossing was one of the few border points between the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany to be crossed by car .

The crossing was built together with Autobahn 24 and opened with the Autobahn in November 1982. It was between the communities of Gudow in Schleswig-Holstein and Zarrentin in the Schwerin district of the GDR and, from 1990, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The GDR control facilities were located south of the motorway on the site of today's Valluhn / Gallin industrial park . The remnants of the handling facilities were demolished around 1993.

The facilities of the control center of the German customs and the Federal Border Guard were located on the site of today's Gudow service station. The main building, which is located at the service station Gudow-Nord, was converted into the "Autobahnhotel Gudow-Nord".
