Handle base

In the knowledge of edged weapons , the handle base is the lower end of an edged weapon handle . So the side of the handle that faces the blade.

As with the Japanese tsuka , the handle base can have reinforcing rings and end plates. Similar reinforcements are also known as ferrules .
