Grimbald

Grimbald (* 827 ; † July 8, 901 ) was a Benedictine .

Grimbald became a Benedictine and prior of St-Bertin Monastery (Sithiu) in his homeland. In 885 King Alfred called him to England and offered him the Archbishopric of Canterbury , which Grimbald refused. He was a co-founder of New Minster Monastery in Winchester , probably also its first abbot . He died on July 8, 901. The relics were collected in 984. His festival is on July 8th.
