Grimbergen (beer)
Grimbergen is a Belgian abbey beer that has been brewed by the Belgian brewery group Alken-Maes since 1958 . Carlsberg has held the international trademark rights since 2008 , and the beer is brewed at various locations within the group. Alken-Maes, part of the Heineken Group, continues to produce Grimbergen for the Belgian market only .
history
In the Premonstratensian Abbey in Grimbergen , founded by St. Norbert von Xanten , beer was brewed for the first time as early as 1128. The own brewing business has been discontinued since the French Revolution ; the original brewery in the monastery of the Norbertine monks now serves as a beer museum .
