The Grindle Rock is a 215 m high and striking cliff rock in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands . It juts out of the sea 1.7 km west of Bristol Island . Further to the west are Wilson Rock and Freezland Rock .
The British navigator James Cook discovered it in 1775. Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations carried out a new mapping in 1930. They named him after Gilbert Edmund Augustine Grindle (1869-1934), Permanent Under-Secretary in the Colonial Office .
