The street Große Hardewiek in Cuxhaven is an approx. 0.3 km long old street. It leads in a south-north direction from Neustraße to Konrad-Adenauer-Allee and Meyerstraße.

Back streets

The side and connecting streets were named as Neustraße after the street was rebuilt in 1775 after a fire, Kleine Hardewiek (see above), Hadeler Platz after the Land of Hadeln , Segelckestraße after the mayor of Groden - Ritzebüttel and Döse - Altenwalde Ferdinand Hinrich Segelcke ( 1834–1902), Lehmkuhle after a way or place named in 1645 in the Winnungsbuch by Johann Frese, Meyerstraße 1903 after the head of the Hamburg building authority Franz Andreas Meyer (1837-1901) and Konrad-Adenauer- Allee 1983 after the first Federal Chancellor.

The street was named after the Low German words Harde for shepherd and Wiek for settlement.

After Ritzebüttel and Alt-Cuxhaven were united in 1872 , the local area was expanded to a greater extent. The streets Große and Kleine Hardewiek are among the oldest streets in Ritzebüttel. At the corner of Meyerstraße / Große Hardewiek, the former Cuxhavener Meierei from 1884 stood until 1975. The street was in the urban redevelopment area of Ritzebüttel (1975-2007).

In terms of traffic, the road is affected by the bus lines 1002 to 1008, 1010, 1018 to 1024 and 1027 of the KVG at the train station / central bus station.
