Große Laache in the NSG Orrer Wald and Große Laache in Pulheim

The Große Laache is a wetland at the mouth of the Pulheimer Bach , which is mainly in the urban area of Pulheim and partly in Cologne . The area is characterized by the formation of middle and low terraces of the Rhine . Several ponds in front of the infiltration area clarify the inflowing water and reduce the nutrient content. The seepage water flows to the wells of the Weiler waterworks .

The Kleine Laache is one kilometer north near the hamlet of Orr . In the past it was transformed into an English garden which is now overgrown. The conservation of the Große Laache has priority, which is why the Kleine Laache and its ponds are only flooded via a canal when there is heavy rainfall.
