Groß Markt 4, Perleberg

The listed building Großer Markt 4 is one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Perleberg . It is located in the immediate vicinity of the town hall. Today the Prignitz eV tourism association is based there.

description

The building's gable consists of diamond-shaped compartments , suggesting that it dates from the 17th century. In contrast, the compartments on the lower floors are rectangular. The barrel vaulted cellar indicates that the property was already built on in the early Middle Ages . The hall on the ground floor has a ceiling height of five meters. The two floors above are significantly lower.

Located on projections 13 is about 80 cm high and 24 cm wide Knaggenfiguren that Jesus Christ , four apostles ( Paul of Tarsus , Simon Peter , John and Andrew ), Christopher , George , a king, a knight, a squire, a soldier, depicting a bourgeois woman and an unclothed woman. The background surface of the figures is inclined and there is a canopy above each one . On the bar above the Knaggen figures it says in early New High German :

"Thistle and darn stuck sere Still dappel en̄ falske tùge vele mere So vil ik lev i thistel and dà badè we are loaded with en̄e falske tuge beings"

“Thistles and thorns sting a lot, a false tongue even more. So I would rather bathe in thistles and thorns than be laden with a false tongue. "

- Bar inscription

The inscription on the beam between the two rows of figures reads:

"In front of you Trvve is misleading Trvve is a rare guest wol se kricht de fetch it almost."

"From past and present, p. 53 (translation there:" See yourself. True is annoying. Loyalty is a rare guest, whoever gets it, almost keeps it. ""

- Bar inscription

At the end of the message bar there is a so-called envy mask, which should possibly clarify the tension with the councilors.

To the right of the building there was a narrow lane, the so-called Klappstrasse, which connected Schuhstrasse with the Great Market until around 1885.

history

The building was erected in 1525 by a wealthy citizen, and by the middle of the 16th century the cleats were also added, the color of which was renewed about ten to fifteen times. The figures date from between 1500 and 1520, so it is believed that they were not originally created for this building. The last layer of paint applied dates from 1953, until the Perleberg Citizens' Association had all Knaggen figures restored between 2003 and 2005. Copies were made for some Knaggen figures and the originals were handed over to the Perleberg City and Regional Museum. In 1891 a fundamental interior renovation took place. The last restoration took place in 1998 with funds from the German Foundation for Monument Protection .
