The 20-25 m high rock rises on the northwest slope of the "Tannenglasbachskopf" above the valley floor of the "Seidelbach". The location is opposite the "Großer Suckenkopf" in the beech forest at an altitude of 716  m above sea level. NN .

Hikers can reach the rock directly from the southern outskirts of Neustadt am Rennsteig (distance about 1.5 km) by following the western of the two hiking trails that start here from the southern end of the "Tannengrundstraße" and to the Tannenglasbachskopf through the mountain meadows to the left of the Seidelbach Follow the edge of the forest. Turn right at the edge of the forest and follow the signposted path approx. 300 m downhill. The way back can also be extended through the valley floor of the Seidelbach or over the OT Kahlert .

The porphyry rock , protected as a natural monument , was modeled over thousands of years through continuous weathering of the soft rock. The big stone and the similarly created rock formation “Nadelöhr” in the Dachsbachtal (Gießübler Switzerland) 5 km away were the subject of legends and stories.
