Kahlert is a small settlement that belongs to the district of Neustadt am Rennsteig in the rural community of Großbreitenbach in the Thuringian Forest .

geography

Kahlert is about 780 meters above sea level on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest directly on the Rennsteig , which runs through the place in a north-south direction. The ridge plateau drops steeply to the west to the Tannengrund, which merges into the Schönbrunn dam . The valley of the Oelze begins to the east and flows through Altenfeld to the Schwarza . Neustadt am Rennsteig is just under two kilometers north of Kahlert, while Masserberg is the next place on the Höhenweg about six kilometers south . To the east a road leads down to Altenfeld and to the west to Gießübel . As a pass road, it connects the valleys of Schleuse and Schwarza.

history

At the intersection with the Rennsteig, the settlement of Kahlert did not emerge until the 18th century, and was first mentioned in 1727. During this time the Rennsteig was the border between the Schwarzburg and Ernestine territories, from which Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Sachsen-Meiningen emerged . Since the Rennsteig leads past Kahlert's houses to the east, the settlement belonged to the Sachsen-Meininger part of the divided town of Neustadt am Rennsteig. After the founding of the state of Thuringia in 1920, a community reform was carried out in which both halves of Neustadt and Kahlert formed a community in the new district of Arnstadt , from which today's Ilm district emerged .
