Schönbrunn is a district of the Schleusegrund community in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

Schönbrunn lies in a long valley of the Thuringian Forest , the Schleusegrund . You can get into the valley on hiking trails and paths and access is via state road 1137 from Waldau. The lock water flows through Schönbrunn.
history
Schönbrunn was founded on July 1st 1950 by amalgamating the villages of Schönau , Unterneubrunn with the former district of Ernstthal , Oberneubrunn and Gabel . In the early 1970s, the Schönbrunn dam was built in the municipality , which largely flooded the Gabel district. In 1994 Schönbrunn became part of the newly founded community Schleusegrund.
economy
Schönbrunn is one of the production sites for Fuchs Gewürzen . The first spice factory was founded in 1873 by Marie Schmidt. During the GDR era, the spice mill was continued as a consumer plant . Around 800 people are currently employed at this location.
