history

The company was founded in 1952 by Dieter Fuchs (1928–2019). In the beginning he used a bicycle to supply households with salt and pepper in bags. In 1963 he brought the Fuchs decor box onto the market, and in 1970 he introduced the first spice racks for supermarkets. In 1981 the company bought the manufacturer Weiand . In addition, the company took over its competitor Ostmann Gewürz in 1998 . Two years later, the manufacturer Ubena followed . Another two years later, in 2002, the company bought the Wagner Gewürz company and thus incorporated its last major competitor. In 2006 the company decided to enter the delicatessen and ready-made meals market and bought Theodor Kattus GmbH and the Asian brand Bamboo Garden . Since 2008 the company has also been active in the market for stocks , soups and sauces, where it uses the Escoffier brand . From 2011 to 2012, Fuchs increased sales from 522 million euros to 553 million euros. In 2013, Dieter Fuchs gave up all management functions in the company on September 1, but remained active in an advisory capacity. At this time Carsten Wehrmann (* 1968 in Höxter) took over the overall management of the company. Wehrmann had been managing director of Lindt & Sprüngli Austria since 2010 . After only five months, however, Wehrmann left the company again. Nils Meyer-Pries (* 1970;), Andre Kich (* 1957), Dirk Haucap (* 1969) and Helmut Mank (* 1956) are currently at the top of the company. In 2016, the 87-year-old spice patriarch Dieter Fuchs transferred the majority of his shares in the parent company DF World of Spices (WOS) to the non-profit Dieter Fuchs Foundation. The foundation, located in Dissen, previously appeared primarily through research funding. Fuchs' son Alexander is the managing director of Fuchs Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, which is also based in Dissen. In 2016 it was announced that the Finnish Paulig Group, which has a 25.01% stake in WOS, is to control the parent company at the side of the company founder. In 2017, Fuchs took over the second largest English spice producer Bart Ingredients from Bristol.

In 2011 Dieter Fuchs was awarded the “ Golden Sugar Loaf ”, a prize from the consumer goods industry in Germany, for his life's work .
