Schönau

Schönau is part of Schönbrunn , part of the municipality Schleusegrund in the district of Hildburghausen in Thuringia .

history

Schönau was first mentioned in a document in 1352. Schönbrunn (formerly Schönau) was affected by the persecution of witches from 1619 to 1623 . Four women and two men got into witch trials . Three women were burned.

Until 1815, the place belonged to the Henneberg or Electoral Saxon office Schleusingen . From 1815 to 1945 Schönau belonged to Prussia and administratively to the Schleusingen district .

On July 1, 1950, the previous communities of Gabel , Oberneubrunn , Schönau and Unterneubrunn were merged to form the new community of Schönbrunn . This has belonged to the Schleusegrund community since 1994. Today, the Schönau site is the center of the Schönbrunn area. This is now about 3.5 kilometers long. This measure was a prerequisite for the construction of the Schönbrunn dam .
