The large pond , also known as peat bog (see) or fir bog , is a body of stagnant water in the municipality of Selmsdorf in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The large pond in the village of Selmsdorf extends from southwest to northeast over a length of 600 meters. At its widest point, the standing water measures around 120 meters, at its narrowest only around ten meters. The size is 4.4 hectares, the water level is 17.9 m above sea level. NHN . On the west bank there are meadows, the east bank overgrown with quarry forest is boggy. This is followed directly by residential areas on both sides. The pond is traversed by a ditch from southwest to northeast, which originates in a damp depression only about 700 meters southwest. After the pond has flowed through, it crosses federal highway 104 and flows west of Zarnewenz into Dassower See . Maps from the 18th century show that the Mühlenbach north of the Chaussee was dammed again. The field name "Mühlenbruch" northeast of Selmsdorf indicates the earlier existence of a water mill in this area.

The polytrophic water is used for fishing and is leased to the local fishing club. The species of fish include eel, perch, pike, tench, roach, rudd, moderlieschen and crucian carp.
