The Große Teufelssee is located in the Teufelsmoor nature reserve near Horst, northeast of the Horst district of the municipality of Sanitz in the Rostock district . The majority of the lake lies in the municipality of Sanitz, only the eastern tip belongs to the municipality of Ticino . The lake is surrounded by mixed forest. South of the Großer Teufelssee are the smaller lakes Kleiner Teufelssee with 4.5 hectares and the Horster lake with 4.0 hectares. The lake has a north-south extension of about 320 meters and a west-east extension of about 700 meters.
