Great stone graves near Holdorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Holdorf were two or three megalithic tombs from the Neolithic funnel beaker culture near Holdorf in the district of Vechta ( Lower Saxony ). They were destroyed in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

According to a report from 1900, the remainder of a larger monument still existed at that time "[a] uf Parz. 64, corridor 15 to Art. 14, Kolon Niehaus". A single stone called "the broad stone" was preserved. It was 3 m long, 2 m wide and a little over 1 m thick. To the north, four more stones were attached to the adjacent property. It is not clear from the description whether it was a contiguous or two adjacent monuments, but the former is more likely.

Nearby on the “Parz. 134, hall 15 ”is the name given to“ near the stones ”. A large stone grave is said to have been located there, which was probably torn down in the 1850s for the construction of the St. Peter and Paul Church in Holdorf . No information is available about the orientation, dimensions and type of grave of the facility.
