St. Peter and Paul (Holdorf)
St. Peter and Paul is the church of the Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul in Holdorf .
history
On the initiative of Pastor Ortmann von Damme, a half-timbered chapel with a bell tower was built at the end of the choir in 1736 , which was consecrated to the Apostles St. Peter and Paul on December 19, 1737 . The Holdorf parish, including the villages of Handorf, Grandorf, Fladderlohausen and Ihorst, soon had 1,800 Catholics, which resulted in the decision to build a larger church in 1852, which was built in 1858 by Hilger Hertel the Elder and consecrated on November 18, 1858.
Building description
St. Peter and Paul is a three-aisled hall church made of brick in the neo-Gothic style . There is a slender tower on the west side and a polygonal choir (architecture) on the east side .
Furnishing
The corpus on the cross above the altar was created by an artist from Osnabrück in the 16th century and rediscovered during renovation work. The high altar was made in 1882 and comes from the Church of St. Peter in Oldenburg .
The organ was built in 1969 by the organ builder Alfred Führer (Wilhelmshaven). The slider chest instrument was initially in the left aisle and was moved to the new west gallery in 2012. The instrument has 18 stops on two manual works and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
