The megalithic graves near Wesselin were three megalithic tombs of the Neolithic funnel cup culture in the area of the municipality of Lohme between Wesselin and Vietzke in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). Two of these graves were already destroyed in the 19th century, the third in the middle of the 20th century. This has the Sprockhoff number 498.

location

The graves were located on a wooded height between Hof Vietzke, which belongs to Lohme, and Hof Wesselin, which belongs to Sagard and which has now fallen into desolation , in what is now the municipality of Lohme. The Nipmerow stone grave lies 2.3 km to the northeast . There are also several burial mounds in the vicinity .

Research history

The graves were first described in 1829 by Friedrich von Hagenow , who was able to identify three more complexes in Wesselin. His research was published in 1904 by Rudolf Baier . Ernst Sprockhoff found only one system in his documentation of the megalithic graves on Rügen. When Ewald Schuldt was re-admitted in the 1960s, this too disappeared.

description

Grave 1

When Sprockhoff was taken, grave 1 still had a very well preserved burial chamber that was buried deep in the ground . A pile of hills or an enclosure could not be seen. The chamber was oriented northeast-southwest. Two capstones and the tips of two wall stones that protruded from the ground between the capstones were visible. The burial chamber was referred to by Sprockhoff as an extended dolmen , but by Schuldt as a large dolmen .

Grave 2

Grave 3 had a grave chamber of the Großdolmen type, which was encased by a rolling stone mound.
