Sprockhoff no. 79

The large stone grave Groß Wittensee is a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Groß Wittensee in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein . It bears the Sprockhoff number 79.

location

The grave is located east of Groß Wittensee in the Wahrberg enclosure. To the northeast are the megalithic graves near Goosefeld .

description

The system has a round mound with a diameter of 15 m and a height of 1.3 m. The original enclosure no longer exists. Using excavation holes, Ernst Sprockhoff was able to reconstruct that the enclosure probably consisted of 14 stones, each about 1 m in diameter. The centrally located burial chamber is a north-west-south-east oriented extended dolmen with a length of about 2.25 m and a width of 1.1 m. There are two pairs of wall stones on the long sides and the two end stones on the narrow sides. The cap stones are missing. The north-western end stone and the two adjacent wall stones are still in situ , the other stones have been moved. The southeast corner stone probably only took up half of the narrow side and left an entrance free at the southeast corner. In front of this was a 1.5 m long corridor made of two pairs of wall stones, of which only the two northeastern stones and a fragment of one of the stones opposite have been preserved.
