location

Location of the grave according to von Estorff

The grave was located north of the path from Masbrock to the Havekost residential area on the original outskirts of Havekost. The complex was framed by two Bronze Age burial mounds . The two large stone graves near Römstedt , which were also destroyed in the 19th century, were located just under 3 km to the northwest .

description

Floor plan of the tomb after von Estorff

According to von Estorff, the complex was “one of the most beautiful barrows in the area”. It had a well-visible mound with a north-south oriented burial chamber , which was a large dolmen . It had six pairs of wall stones on the long sides and a capping stone on the northern narrow side. The situation on the southern narrow side cannot be seen on the reconstruction drawing. The wall stones were almost completely in the earth, so that the cap stones touched the mound. When von Estorff took the picture, all capstones were still preserved. There were seven of them, and unusually two stones rested on the southernmost pair of wall stones. The chamber was 9 m long and 1.5 m wide.
