Big stone grave Risau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave Risau was a possible megalithic Neolithic tomb in the area of the city of Möckern in the district of Jerichower Land , Saxony-Anhalt . The grave was destroyed in the 18th or 19th century.

location

The grave was in the area between Möckern and Zeppernick on a hill, this area was named Risau.

Research history

The facility was documented for the first time by Joachim Gottwalt Abel , who was pastor in Möckern between 1755 and 1806 . He left only handwritten notes on this, which were published by Ernst Herms in 1928 . However, the grave itself had already been completely removed during Herms' investigations.

description

Of the possible grave, Abel could only make out a single large stone sunk deep into the earth. He thought it was an altar , that is, the capstone of a burial chamber . Since Abel could not make out any other stones, it is quite possible that it was just a simple boulder . But since the name "giant stone" was used for the stone and the name "giant pieces" or "giant pieces" were used for the parcel on which it was located, it can also be assumed that there was originally a grave here, the stones of which were gradually added had been removed.
