Grohe brewery

The brewery was founded in 1838. Until 1899 the brewery was called "Zum Erbacher Hof". The new owner Gabriel Grohe brought the name "Grohe" with him, which the brewery still bears today. After the brewery in the Second World War in a raid in September 1944 as the majority of Darmstadt had been totally destroyed, she took in 1948 the brewing operation again. The company was continuously in the hands of the Grohe family until the end of the 1980s. Most recently this was Maria Grohe, the granddaughter of the founder Gabriel Grohe. The brewery was then taken over by Wolfgang Koehler, owner of the Darmstadt private brewery . The brewery bar and the "Alte Scheune" restaurant are run by the restaurateurs Agnieszka and Thilo Hanke.

It is one of the few economically successful breweries that still brew by hand, therefore without the use of computer controls.

The brewery buildings are under monument protection .
